Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction
TMJ dysfunction is a condition that happens when your jaw is either misaligned, or the muscles around the jaw are tight, swollen, or overly rigid. TMJ dysfunction can be temporary, or may last many years. If you think you may have TMJ dysfunction, some of the symptoms you may experience are jaw pain, headaches, earaches, ringing in your ears (tinnitus), and a clicking, or “popping,” in your jaw when you open and close your mouth to chew.
We’ll help put a smile back on your face.
Your Hawkstone physical therapist will help you understand what may be causing your TMJ dysfunction and how to relieve your symptoms. Depending on how severe the symptoms are, Hawkstone physical therapists will use a number of treatments to reduce muscle tension and scar tissue and get your jaw working smoothly again, without pain. They’ll also develop a personalized treatment plan for you that may involve you learning and practicing techniques to help you regain and maintain normal jaw movement.
